The Spanish Society of Acoustics (SEA) has granted the eleventh Andrés Lara Award to the young acoustician Iván Herrero Durá for the thesis titled “Measurement of Sound Absorption of a Water Injection System ‘, the result of a research project for his Master’s thesis in Acoustical Engineering offered by the UPV in Gandia. Roberto Atiénzar and Dídac Diego Tortosa, researchers from the Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València, have received and award from the Spanish Acoustic Society (SEA, for its Spanish initials) for their studies in the field of acoustics. Both have obtained two of the three Andrés Lara Awards for Young Researchers granted in this year’s INTER-NOISE Congress. Technology Women and Science

The Spanish Acoustic Society has awarded the 2017 Andres Lara Young Researcher Award to Manuel Parrilla Navarro, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications Systems, Sound and Image Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Acoustic Engineering from Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València. The Prize was awarded during the 2017 Tecniacústica International Symposium, where 33 of the 188 papers presented on acoustics were authored by researchers at the Campus Gandia.

The Doctoral Thesis by Researcher Noé Jiménez Receives Excellence Award

The Campus Gandia graduate, Dr. Noé Jiménez, obtained the highest absolute score in the Extraordinary Doctorate Awards scale 2017 granted by the Universitat Politècnica de València for his doctoral thesis entitled “Nonlinear Acoustic Waves in Complex Media“, supervised by researcher professors Javier Redondo and Francisco Camarena from Gandia. Jiménez holds degrees in Telecommunication Systems, Sound and Image Engineering and in Audiovisual Communication from the Campus of Gandia, where he also completed his Master’s Degree in Acoustic Engineering, as well as his doctoral thesis.

The UPV Polytechnic City of Innovation hosted the Tecniacústica 2015 conference on October 21st to the 23rd, where over 200 national and international experts presented their latest developments and debated the upcoming research challenges in the field of acoustics. Among the many topics debated, the latest developments in noise control and insulation in buildings were addressed; new materials and acoustic devices; room design; acoustic analysis of recreational areas; virtual acoustics; or the preservation of the musical heritage of Valencia.

“Invisible Female Scientists” Seminar

Science and Society Women and Science

Seminar sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. The Campus Gandia of the Polytechnic University of Valencia hosted the “Invisible Female Scientists” seminar on March 5, 2014 to mark International Women’s Day and in order to highlight the role of women in science and research throughout history. The program consisted of a panel discussion led by scientists from the UPV who reflected on their own personal and professional experience; the “Invisible Female Scientifists” exhibition was also inaugurated with a guided theatrical tour of the campus.

Decontamination Procedures for DANA Vehicles

A research team from the Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) is studying the decontamination of vehicles damaged by the DANA storms, in collaboration with the Generalitat and the affected municipalities. “Natural disasters leave behind numerous consequences that require emergency measures rather than standard responses. This is the case of the DANA disaster on October 29, which, among other events, left more than 120,000 damaged vehicles in its wake.
