Anechoic and reverberation chambers
The anechoic and reverberation chambers are two of the landmark installations on the Campus Gandia, as there are very few in Spain with similar technical characteristics. These two chambers are used to study the behavior of sound and conduct acoustical measurements, something highly demanded by other researchers, institutions and companies. More
Research structures
The UPV launched a project to create research groups that allow different researchers to collaborate in order to develop far-reaching actions that help them become more competitive as a result of the synergies. On the Campus of Gandia, the majority of the active researchers are members of at least one of the structures created for this purpose.
Aula magna
The Aula Magna (Assembly Hall) hosts many of the scientific events, symposiums and conferences on our Campus. With a total capacity of 525 people, it also has multipurpose rooms equipped with the latest technologies for the organization of events.
X National Aquaculture Conference
The slogan of the X National Aquaculture Conference, organized by the Spanish Aquaculture Society (SEA for its Spanish initials) together with the Campus of Gandia, was 'Aquaculture, the source of quality fish for the future'. This is the most important scientific conference nationwide dedicated to aquaculture, bringing together all of the researchers currently working in the field to exchange ideas and discuss their work and projects.
XX National URSI Symposium
The Annual National Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) brings together more than three hundred researchers and professionals from the field of Information Technology and Communications. It is the foremost meeting place for all those working in basic and/or applied research in the fields of telecommunications and electronic sciences within universities, research centers and companies. In 2005, this event was organized by researchers at the Campus of Gandia.
Science Week
The annual Science Week, which premiered on the campus in 2005, consists of numerous workshops, lectures, conferences and scientific demonstrations, aimed primarily at bringing science and technology to pre-university students. The aim of these activities is to promote scientific vocations and hands-on learning by walking in the shoes of a scientist for a few hours.
37ª Tecniacústica
In 2006 the Gandia Campus hosted the 2006 Tecniacustica forum that brings together acoustic professionals specializing in technical and applied aspects. This event was organized by the Spanish Society of Acoustics (SEA) and the Gandia Campus.
IGIC
The IGIC operates on the Campus Gandia with the aim of carrying out scientific research of excellence on issues related to coastal zone management: from regional planning to technological tools for intervention and monitoring of ecosystems. </ p>
Aula Natura
UPV researchers participated in the creation of the Aula Natura (Nature Hall) located in the Gandia Marsh, whose activities were focused on outreach, training and scientific research with a local, Valencian Community and national projection. Currently the Aula Natura is privately managed.
Dissemination and communication in social networks
Dissemination in social media and digital channels began in 2009 through the Twitter and Facebook accounts of the research groups on the Campus Gandia. In addition, specific content was created for the YouTube channel, the hashtag #UPVGandiaCiencia was created, science pictures and presentations were uploaded to Flickr and Slideshare. CRAI
The Resource Center for Learning and Research (CRAI for its Spanish initials) is an innovative building offering comprehensive services in support of educational, research and learning needs. Its 8,000 square meters accommodate a library, computer labs, the Self-Learning Language Center and a scientific exhibition hall.
Comunica 2.0 Social Networks Conference
The University Conference on Social Networks and Digital Communication of the UPV got underway with the idea of providing information and guidelines for new professional strategies based on social media. This yearly conference has placed the Campus and the city of Gandia in the leading position in the national industry. More
Scientific Sections in Telegrafies
2010 saw the launch of the weekly science sections in the TV program Telegrafies, with interviews and content intended for science communication sponsored by the CAM bank and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT for its Spanish initials). This television program is produced in-house on the Campus and airs on local television stations in Gandia and on UPV TV.
Honorary Doctorate
The Polytechnic University of Valencia awarded an Honorary Doctorate to Antonio Pellicer, dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Valencia. Antonio Pellicer, co-founder and co-director of the Valencian Institute of Infertility, is one of the foremost international specialists in assisted reproduction.
IEO-UPV
The joint research unit formed by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) is located in the warehouses of the Port of Gandia; it works on the development of technology and new methods of study in the areas of aquaculture, the study of the marine environment, biodiversity and fishery resources.
The Sea of Science' Exhibition
The “The Sea of Science” exhibition is an activity that took place on the Campus Gandia with the aim of bringing certain scientific-technological aspects of the marine world, and especially the Mediterranean Sea, closer to people.
Fotciencia10 Exhibition
In 2013 Gandia Campus hosted the Fotciencia10 Exhibition. The exhibition included winning and selected photographs from the X Fotciencia National Science Photography Contest organized by the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC for its Spanish initials) and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT or its Spanish initials). The selected photographs illustrate scientific facts with an artistic and aesthetic vision. More
Exhibition: 20 Years of Research on the Campus
In this exhibition, consisting of a total of 21 posters, (se pudieron ver) some of the most important research projects of the Campus Gandia, such as: new methods for pesticide analysis in environmental samples; sonic crystals, control and management of acoustic waves; electronic-nose technologies for the characterization of digestive diseases; enhancement of the natural and cultural heritage and tourism product design, etc. More
Invisible Female Scientists Exhibition and Conference
The Invisible Female Scientists Conference was programmed for the inauguration of the exhibition of the same name that highlights illustrious women of science throughout history, working in different fields such biology, mathematics, physics or medicine; women such as Marie Curie or Elisabeth Blackwell. Moreover, a group of researchers from the Polytechnic University of Valencia participated in a panel discussion in which they talked about the research field from the woman's perspective.
Telegrafies, Bringing You Science for Five Years
Telegrafies, the television program produced by Audiovisual Communication students from the Campus Gandia, had two purposes: to inform society about the scientific work taking place at Campus Gandia, and to help students acquire skills in audiovisual dissemination of science. More
International Cinema/Series Conference
International experts discussed the transfer process taking place between TV series and films in the International Cinema/Series Conference. Sherlock Holmes, Hannibal, Fargo, The Truman Show, Gomorrah, Mad Men, Breaking Bad or Batman are some of the shows that researchers from British, Spanish, Italian, Canadian, American, German and Turkish universities talked.
Science, Up Close and Personal
The project, funded by FECYT, is aimed at promoting scientific culture, technology and innovation among the general public, as well as university and pre-students, in particular. The project comprises three main activities; two television program sections and one radio program section. New IVIO-UPV Chair
The Chair, which is valid for at least one year and renewable, is ascribed to the Campus Gandia. The partnership agreement will first focus on conducting research in technologies applied to the field of dentistry, and then on educational and dissemination activities at the Campus Gandia.
Lecture by Nobel Prize Winner Avram Hershko
Israeli Biologist and Professor, Avram Hershko, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2004 and jury member of the Premis Rei Jaume I 2016, gave a conference-colloquium at Campus Gandia. The research carried out by Dr. Hershko, along with the scientists Aaron Ciechanover and Irwin Rose, have proven key in the research on cancer and rare diseases, and could also be important in the research on aging and certain degenerative processes associated with age.
Gandia, City of Science and Innovation
Gandia is one of nine Spanish cities to be chosen in 2016 to receive the distinction of “City of Science and Innovation”. The Campus Gandia of the UPV has actively participated in the development of the project. With this achievement, Gandia joins the ranks of the “Red Innpulso” (Innpulso Network), which is made up by 62 municipalities in Spain. The project counted with the collaboration of as many as 26 organizations from Gandia and the Safor county.
POLISABIO project
The Alcoy and Gandia Campuses of the Universitat Politécnica de Valencia (UPV), alongside FISABIO, Foundation’s Health Departments located in Xativa-Ontinyent, Elda, Sant Joan d’Alacant, Marina Baixa, Gandia and Alcoy, launched POLISABIO, a platform dedicated to the promotion of research in the field of healthcare. Research Commission
The Research Commission promotes high-impact scientific activity in all areas that Campus Gandia of the UPV is involved in and that are related to its fields of knowledge: Telecommunications, Tourism, Audiovisual Communication, Environmental Science, Interactive and Multimedia Technologies... Women and Science
One of Campus Gandia's strongest commitments is to promote equality in RDI activity and to encourage girls and young women in STEM studies. For this purpose and to give greater visibility to the work done by our female researchers and serve as role models, we have incorporated a new section in the blog that includes posts about the projects they are taking part in. Furthermore, a new Equality Committee was set up on the Campus and funding was provided in 2018 by the Generalitat Valenciana to carry out relevant activities, which we will be sure to continue in the coming years.
Explore RDI Conference
Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València wants to continue strengthening its research after reaching historic levels in its scientific output in 2017. To this end, it hosted the Explora RDI Conference that presented many of the research lines being developed on the campus.
The activity also served to encourage collaboration between research teams, as well as attract new talent among students.
“Gandia Smart Tourism” Chair
The City Council of Gandia and the Universitat Politècnica de València signed an agreement to create the “Gandia Smart Tourism” Chair to promote initiatives that facilitate collaboration between the tourism sector and the university, as well as as the transfer of knowledge. The aim of the chair is to contribute to the development of a tourism based on science and knowledge, thus increasing the positive impact on the population from the social, economic, work-related, cultural and environmental stand points.
AEDEM Conference
Campus de Gandia hosted the conference titled “XXXII Annual Meeting de la European Academy of Management and Business Economics”. The motto in this edition was “Towards social, economic and business improvement: Multidisciplinary advances in Innovation, Tourism and Engineering”. The objective of the meeting organized by AEDEM was to promote multidisciplinary discussion and was aimed at academics, professionals, and doctoral students.
February 11th
Launch of the ’Bring a female scientist to school’, campaign, promoted by the Equality Commission of Campus Gandia of the Univiersitat Politècnica de València (UPV), to celebrate February 11th, International Day of Women and Girls in Science..
This campaign offered talks and workshops given by students and research staff from Campus Gandia to primary and secondary schools, with the aim of bringing science closer to children and teenagers in an entertaining way.
Visit from Nobel Laureate
Jean-Pierre Sauvage,Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2016, gave his lecture at Campus Gandia of the UPV to 180 people, among whom were students from 2nd year Baccalaureate of the IES María Enríquez and the IES Veles e Vents from Gandia, a young audience that he loves to talk to and transmit his passion for science. The day before the conference he was awarded Doctor Honoris Causa by the UPV.
Safor Salut
Launch of the ‘Safor Salut’, program, a joint initiative between the Foundation for the Promotion of Health and Biomedical Research of the Valencian Community (FISABIO, for its Spanish initials) through the Gandia Health Department and Hospital la Pedrera, Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), and the Federation of Business Associations of La Safor (FAES, for its Spanish initials). The main goal is to bring together the healthcare, business and university sectors to discover their needs and generate innovation projects in healthcare at the county level. For this purpose, Campus Gandia hosted the presentation of 'Safor Salut' by representatives of the three sectors.
Mednight
Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) took part in the First Mediterranean Women Researcher's Night in Gandia (Mednight), in collaboration with the EUCRANTE association, with two environmental awareness activities focusing on the problem caused by microplastics and pollution of marine ecosystems. The activities will be led by Campus research staff specialized in the marine environment.
Mednight is an event associated with the European Union's 'European Researchers' Nigh initiative, funded by the Marie Sktodowska-Curie actions, which aims to enhance the value of Mediterranean science, making visible the range of scientific activities carried out in this setting and the figure of women in research, in addition to promoting scientific vocations among younger people.
Astroparticle Marathon
Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) participated in the V Astroparticle Marathon in Gandia and La Safor, an initiative, organized by Campus Gandia research professors and experts in neutrinos, Joan Martínez and Miquel Ardid, The activiry featured talks, workshops and experiences carried out by expert staff from the University of Alcalá, Universitat Politècnica de Valencia, University of Valencia and the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC, Valencia) and was attended by students from surround secondary schools, with the aim of promoting scientific and STEM vocations among younger people. Safor Salut secures funding
The Safor Salut cooperation program secured funding from the Complementary Actions Program to Promote and Strengthen Innovation of the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI). Various initiatives will be carried out in 2021 and 2022 aimed at promoting the generation of collaborative innovation projects between the agents involved (Campus de Gandia, FAES and Fisabio), incorporating other social agents into the program: Foundation for Health Research in the Safor region (AISSA), the Spanish Cancer Association of Gandia and Valencia, the Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association of Gandia and the Safor (DIFFAC.GANDIA), the Espurna Foundation, the Parkinson's Association of Gandia-Safor, the Alzheimer's Family Organization of the Safor (AFA La Safor), the Safor Commonwealth of Municipalities and the Gandia City Council.
Dones Sàvies
For yet another year, Campus de Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) collaborated in the IV edition of the Dones Sàvies (Wise Women) lecture series, organized by the CEIC Alfons el Vell and the Gandia Library, with the support of the Department of Equality of the City Council of Gandia and CEFIRE-Gandia, and coordinated and moderated by Rosa Mascarell, artist, cultural events curator and essayist. Dones Sàvies consists of a lecture series where female academics, scientists and popularizers give visibility to the contribution of eight influential women from the fields of History, Science, Art, Tourism, Literature, Politics or Feminism, among others. CiènciaLab
Campus de Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) hosted the third edition of CiènciaLab 2021-2022, an initiative aimed at stimulating interest in science careers among students in years 3 and 4 of ESO through science, technology and art workshops taught by university professors from different areas of research. The CiènciaLab initiative is promoted by the Office of Communications of the UPV and is carried out on the three campuses -Valencia, Alcoy and Gandia- during the school year. “The CiènciaLab workshops allow youths to experience how studies in science and technology are conducted in the university setting and learn first-hand about the research carried out on each campus. More Facilities for Marine Research
UAn agreement signed between the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and the Port Authority of Valencia has allowed Campus Gandia to occupy sheds 6, 7 and 8, in the Port of the Gandia Fruit Dock. This space, which has a surface area of more than 900 m², has led to the expansion and improvement of the university facilities dedicated to marine research.
New PhD Program
Campus de Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) launches the new PhD Program in Marine and Coastal Science and Technology starting in the 2022-2023 term. The PhD Program in Marine and Coastal Science and Technology is aimed at advanced students with an interest researching the various relevant scientific and technological aspects of effective and sustainable management of marine and coastal areas. The program covers several lines of research: electronic devices, telematics networks and artificial intelligence techniques for monitoring marine and coastal environments; observation methodologies and modeling of marine ecosystems; oceanography, fisheries management and modeling of fluvial habitats and new materials for the control of the acoustic field, and acoustic simulation, with application for the marine and coastal environment.

Campus Salud Gandia
April 2023 saw the launch of the first edition of Campus Salud Gandia, a university hackathon designed to motivate and inspire students from all fields of study and universities, along with anyone interested in innovation in health, well-being, and entrepreneurship. The event featured workshops, conferences, and activities focused on promoting both physical and mental well-being. The campus distinguished itself by emphasizing preventive health and promoting active lifestyles. In addition, it involved the collaboration of health professionals and scholars.

Gandia at the Epicenter of Marine Research and Innovation

Neutrino Detection
UPV takes part in detecting the highest-energy neutrino ever recorded. This discovery, published in the scientific journal Nature, unveils a new way to observe the Universe. This achievement is the result of the international scientific collaboration KM3NeT, which includes the IGIC Research Institute at Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València, along with the Joint Unit with the Spanish Institute of Oceanography.
Citizen Science
The “Safor Salut” cooperation program — a joint initiative by Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), FISABIO–Gandia Health Department, FISABIO–HACLE La Pedreraa, and the Safor Federation of Business Associations (FAES) — has organized its first Citizen Science workshop in collaboration with patient associations and individuals affected by fibromyalgia.
New Podcast Launch: Más Claro Agua (Crystal Clear)
Despite their crucial role on Earth, we still know more about distant planets than we do about our own oceans. “Más Claro Agua” (Crystal Clear) is a podcast that dives deep beneath the surface to explore the ocean’s astonishing biodiversity and pressing environmental challenges—uncovering the secrets our seas still hold. The podcast was launched by the Eucrante Association in collaboration with the Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València. Its goal is to explore and answer questions about the marine ecosystem, from fishing methods and cephalopods to marine reptiles, oceanic Posidonia, and even the mysterious phenomenon of marine snow—among many other fascinating topics.
Luthier & Science Workshop
Campus Gandia (UPV) continues to support the active participation of the community in research and innovation projects. In 2024, UPV, through its Department of Cultural Action, launched its first Citizen Science call to engage the public in initiatives that bridge scientific knowledge with the pressing challenges of our time. Within this initiative, SONARTE (Fusion of Science, Lutherie, and Technology in Perfect Harmony) was born—a project that brings together tradition, music, and technology, culminating in a unique experience: the Lutherie & Science Workshop, that took place at Campus Gandia from September 29 to October 2, 2025.
