The “Safor Salut”” cooperation program—a collaborative initiative between Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), FISABIO–Gandia Department of Health, FISABIO-HACLE La Pedrera, and the Safor Federation of Business Associations (FAES)—reports successful outcomes from its 2024 activities. The program has been carried out with the support of the Valencian Institute of Competitiveness and Innovation (IVACE+i).
Throughout the year, the program has facilitated various activities focused on fostering collaborative research and innovation projects, driving the development of groundbreaking solutions in the healthcare sector.
They have maintained ongoing collaboration with various organizations and social agents, including the Foundation for Health Research in La Safor (AISSA), the Spanish Cancer Association of Gandia (AECC Gandia), the Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association of Gandia and La Safor (DIFFAC Gandia), the Espurna Foundation, the Parkinson’s Association of Gandia-Safor, the Alzheimer’s Family Organization of La Safor (AFA La Safor), the Commonwealth of Municipalities of La Safor, and the Gandia City Council. Additionally, they have partnered with eHealth Comunitat Valenciana Digital District, the Network of Technological Institutes of the Valencian Community, and the Business Confederation of the Valencian Community (CEV). In 2024, the Agro-Rural Innovation Hub (ARIhub) will also join Safor Salut as a collaborator.
In 2024, Safor Salut organized a series of key events, including a Technical Visit to the company Fresmedical, a Technical Meeting on innovation in dual health training, a Conference on research and innovation in hospital management processes, and two Co-creation Workshops: Healthy Diet for the Elderly in Rural Areas and Innovating in the Medical Application of Non-Invasive Neuromodulation.
Additionally, the Safor Salut technical team, along with researchers, healthcare professionals, and business representatives, took part in 16 other innovation events. These included a UniSalut creativity and idea-generation workshop, the e-Forum: Business, Employment, and Training at Campus Gandia (UPV), Campus Salud Gandia, and iDays Valencia, among others.
To fulfill its objectives, the program utilizes a project idea collection system that, through various activities and the web platform www.saforsalut.es, is expected to generate and publish 36 ideas by 2024. Of all active ideas, 42% involve business participation, and 51% are currently in development.
Between 2019 and 2024, the launch and execution of projects involved 54 principal investigators from Fisabio and 47 from the Universitat Politècnica de València, along with contributions from 23 companies, 19 social stakeholders, and 10 technological institutes.
NEW CHALLENGES
The Safor Salut team provided a positive evaluation of the 2024 results during the Project Monitoring Committee meeting in February. Additionally, during the meeting, the 2025 objectives were approved, including the integration of citizen science and the promotion of green hospitals. The discussion highlighted “the importance of sustaining efforts to strengthen collaboration among the healthcare, technology, business, and social sectors to drive innovation in the health field.” The continuity of the project was also evaluated, along with the key initiatives to be implemented this year. These initiatives will focus on primary care, health promotion, collaboration with the social sector, and the integration of new social and business partners to strengthen these areas.
