I launched my professional career with a strong foundation in Computer Engineering from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil. I further advanced my academic pursuits in Spain, earning a PhD from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) in 2011. During my PhD, I specialized in developing innovative projects that applied ontologies and artificial intelligence tools to advance computer-assisted learning. This research was supported by funding from both national and European projects. One of the key outcomes of this research is my co-authorship of InGenio, a multilingual cloud-based platform for distance education. Designed for language learning and assessment, InGenio offers interactive exercises with automated evaluation and personalized feedback, adapting to each student’s profile, native language, and performance.
After earning my PhD, I shifted my focus to the industrial and public services sectors, leading projects for international Software as a Service (SaaS) companies and collaborating with regional and local public entities. I led and managed multiple software development projects, primarily focused on data intercommunication, for companies in both America and Europe. Additionally, I successfully led over 15 competitive projects co-financed by the European Commission. These projects concentrated on critical areas including system interoperability, big data management in commercial relations, public services, and healthcare systems, as well as the security of electronic citizen identification.
These projects provided me with the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technological solutions, with a focus on managing software development projects and optimizing the intercommunication and utilization of large-scale data. My experience covers everything from system interoperability to the deployment of advanced data analysis tools, such as those used for managing traffic accidents and improving road safety. These experiences deepened my expertise and fueled my passion for developing new projects that leverage AI for the greater good of society.
In recent years, I have renewed my dedication to teaching and research at esteemed academic institutions such as Carlos III University of Madrid, the University of Valencia, and the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
I am currently embarking on a new chapter as a research professor at Campus Gandia of the UPV. A key goal of mine is to continue advancing research and the development of innovative projects, with a particular emphasis on applying artificial intelligence to various sectors of society. This new challenge involves building on synergies with partners from past projects I’ve led, as well as establishing strong collaborations with the research community at UPV. My goal is to drive high-impact initiatives that blend cutting-edge research with real-world applications, creating solutions that deliver meaningful benefits to society.
