The practice of dentistry today is vastly different from what it was twenty years ago. This transformation extends to the patient’s experience, with benefits including less invasive and far more efficient treatments. Technological advancements have driven remarkable progress in dentistry, creating an unstoppable momentum and opening up a future filled with possibilities for enhancing treatments, surgeries, and patient care.
The IV Symposium of the IVIO Chair at the Universitat Politècnica de València, held on April 26 at Campus Gandia of the UPV, provided professionals and students with insights into cutting-edge techniques and research poised to revolutionize oral implantology and periodontics. A dynamic gathering that delved into the vast potential of technology applied across the dental sector, explored through a multidisciplinary lens.
The daylong event unfolded over the course of three distinct segments. The initial two segments explored advancements in the integration of new technologies across multidisciplinary dentistry, while the third segment showcased a roundtable discussion on intraoral scanners and presentations highlighting the latest advancements in cosmetic dentistry. The symposium commenced with an inaugural address by Jesús Alba, Director of Campus Gandia at UPV, and Joan Faus, Director of the Valencian Institute of Dental Research (IVIO), presided as the moderator for the speakers.
Francisco Camarena, Director of the IVIO-UPV Chair, concluded the presentation. The remaining speakers were seasoned professionals with extensive expertise in both the practical and research aspects of dentistry. Additionally, the event benefitted from the collaboration of the companies Odontosix MSDI and DentalCost.
SEGMENTS ONE AND TWO: ADVANCEMENTS IN INTERDISCIPLINARY DENTISTRY THROUGH NEW TECHNOLOGIES
Growing Smiles: Strategies for Young Patients. Taught by Magda Faus, an orthodontics and orthopedics specialist, and director of the Master’s degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at IVIO.
Facial Harmony: Integrating Medical Aesthetics into Dental Practice. Taught by Aitana García, a specialist in family and community medicine and professor of the IVIO Facial Rejuvenation Expert Course.
Mastering Cosmetic Dentistry: Innovations in Materials and Techniques. Taught by Ana Roig, an expert in restorative dentistry and director of the IVIO Cosmetic Dentistry Expert Course.
Technology: Our Ally in Conservative Dentistry. Taught by Juan Navarro, co-director of the Master’s in Endodontics and Cosmetic Dentistry at IVIO.
Artificial Intelligence in Future Dentistry. Taught by Carles Deusa, Director of Marketing.
SEGMENT THREE: INTRAORAL SCANNERS AND LATEST ADVANCEMENTS IN COSMETIC DENTAL MEDICINE
Roundtable Discussion: Selecting the Right Intraoral Scanner. Moderated by Lorena Milvaques, a nursing graduate and professor of the IVIO Facial Rejuvenation Expert Course. Featuring the expertise of three doctors from Odontosix MSDI: Rafael Vila, Director of the Master’s in Digital Dentistry, Implantology, and Cosmetic Dentistry at IVIO; Alberto Picó, Professor of the IVIO University Expert in Fixed Prosthesis-Oral Rehabilitation Course; and Miguel Escamilla.
From Treatment Planning to Digital Restoration in Implantology. Taught by Rafael Vila and Alberto Picó.
PRESENTATION OF THE IVIO-UPV CHAIR AWARD FOR THE BEST TFG (FINAL DEGREE PROJECT) 2023
Before the symposium’s conclusion, María del Rocío Gil Morcillo, a dentistry graduate from the University of Valencia (class of 2018-2023), received the 7th Prize for the Best TFG/TFM in the Field of Dental Technology. Joan Faus presented her with the award.
Submissions for the eighth edition of this award are open until December 31st. The 1,000 euro prize will facilitate the presentation of the winning TFG or TFM at a conference, symposium, or specialized event within the dental technology field.
