From November 10 to 15, Campus Gandia of the Polytechnic University of Valencia is celebrating Science Week, an activity which aims to bring science to the general public and especially to young college-bound students. With this edition, Campus Gandia strenthens one of its firmest commitments, promoting interest and bringing scientific research closer to society through the dissemination of R&D activity and promoting the transfer knowledge from the different research groups on the Campus.
In this edition, more than 300 college-bound students from high schools in the Gandia area are expected to participate in experimental itineraries led by Campus teachers and researchers, allowing them to see first hand how scientific activity is conducted. The experimental workshops where pre-university students can participate are: Environmental Education Workshops, Soil Analysis, Chemistry, Visit to the Rockery, Plant Taxonomy, Sewage Treatment, Radio and TV Workshop, Hydrogen Fuel Cell, Electrocardiogram, Sound Effects, Acoustic Chambers, Underwater Communication, and Innovation and Technology in Tourism.
The inauguration of Science Week 2014 will take place on Monday 10th at 12:30 pm in the Exhibition Hall of the Resource Center for Learning and Research (CRAI), with the presence of José Capilla, Vice Chancellor of the UPV for Research, Innovation and Transfer. Among the various activities set to take place are a presentation on the research carried out on the Campus Gandia, after 20 years of existence and development of research activity on campus.
On Thursday November 13th at 12: 30 pm, Eduardo Balguerías, Director of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO), will give a lecture in the Aula Magna (Assembly Hall) of the Campus, open to the entire public; and Friday, November 14 pre-university students, as well as Campus students and staff, will be able to visit the oceanographic research vessel Ramon Margalef, which will be docked at the port of Gandia.
