Safor Salut Secures More Funding to Continue Promoting Healthcare Innovation

The ‘Safor Salut’ cooperation program, an initiative coordinated in 2023 by the Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) together with FisabioGandia Health Department,  Fisabio-HACLE La Pedrera and the Federation of Business Associations de la Safor (FAES, for its Spanish initials), has acquired 86,954 euros in funding from the Program of Complementary Actions to Promote and Strengthen Innovation from the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI, for its Spanish initials), to develop innovation projects in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

“Safor Salut” launched in 2019 with the initial aim of bringing together the healthcare, business and university sectors to learn about their corresponding needs and generate joint innovation projects and business opportunities in healthcare at the regional level, using the Open Innovation strategy through collaborative methodologies. In 2021 and 2022 the program was expanded by incorporating the social component in the projects and ideas generated.

The Safor Salut team made a positive assessment of the results obtained in 2022 and in 2023 they have continued work on the main lines of action to be carried out in the coming years, focusing on Primary Care and the incorporation of new social and business partners to enhance the impact of the program.

In 2023, various actions have been carried to promote the creation of new collaborative innovation projects between the agents involved, which include the Foundation for Health Research in the La Safor region (AISSA), the Spanish Cancer Association of Gandia , the Association Diagnosis of he Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association of Gandia and the La Safor (DIFFAC.GANDIA), the Espurna Foundation, he Parkinson’s Association of Gandia-Safor, the Alzheimer’s Family Association of the Safor (AFA La Safor), the Association of Municipalities of La Safor and the Gandia City Council, the Gandia City Council, as well as the incorporation of 3 new collaborators into the program: Digital District Comunitat Valenciana, Network of Technological Institutes Comunitat Valenciana (REDIT) and Business Confederation of the Comunitat Valenciana (CEV).

With this new funding impetus, the program plans to organize technology pills focusing on technologies with high impact potential in the healthcare sector, as well as subsequent co-creation workshops to stimulate project proposals to drive innovations in the health sector. In turn, and to guarantee participation and generating new ideas, specific creative labs for social agents have been programmed aimed at defining challenges, especially those that require greater creative development.

KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER

Safor Salut’ helps to identify the growing needs in the healthcare setting, as well as to generate project ideas and develop new products and services through collaboration and the transfer of knowledge between the university, the healthcare establishment and the economic fabric, giving rise to new business opportunities in the healthcare sector for companies in the area, as well as improving the competitiveness of the Valencian Innovation System as a whole.
