Instructional Programs Sponsored by the IVIO-UPV Chair
JP
The IVIO-UPV Chair kicks off 2017 reaffirming its commitment to education, research and knowledge transfer in the field of technologies applied to dentistryIn the initial phase, the chair has taken a series of measures to put together the best human and technical team and advance the instructional programs at our campus. These are some of the chief measures:
Recruitment of a senior research technician in ultrasound
The application of ultrasound to oral implantology will be one of the cornerstones of the IVIO-UPV Chair, hence the purpose of this recruitment. This technology has not been traditionally used in this field due to the difficulties inherent in the physical properties of the ultrasonic waves, since they have difficulty propagating through bone structure. However, recent advances in ultrasonic devices, including its use for the assessment of bone disease, signal major development in the coming years. The person recruited for this position will begin work at Campus Gandia at the end of January 2017.
Imagine an environment in which two or more dentists located in different geographical points, can interact and collaborate in a virtual oral scenario in 3D. The purpose of this recruitment is to further another line of activity of the chair, namely “Virtual Reality (VR) and Multisensory Systems”. A prototype VR application will be created to improve the user experience in their visit to the dentist, as well as an evaluation of the improvements achieved in the quality of the user/customer experience because of its use. The person recruited for this position will begin work at Campus Gandia at the beginning of February 2017.
Two Teaching Assistant (TAs) Grants at Campus Gandia
The purpose of this grant is for students to acquire teaching-related experience in the IVIO-UPV Chair and to become familiar with the various technical laboratory devices. One student will be chosen from the Undergraduate Department of Telecommunications Engineering, Sound and Image, and the other from the Master’s Program in Acoustic Engineering.
I IVIO Chair Prize for Best Bachelor or Master Thesis (TFG/TFM, for the Spanish initials)
The first IVIO Chair Prize will be awarded to the best TFG/TFM of the 2016-2017 term from in any Spanish university, that relates to Dental Technology & Dentistry Advances. The purpose of this prize is advance students’ work in this field, as well as publish the result of their findings. To this end, a 500-euro prize will be awarded to the best thesis, to be used to present the findings at a national conference relating to the field of technology applied.
