No one likes going to the dentist, but we all love to smile and have other people smile back. Having bright and healthy teeth that give you the confidence to smile or laugh out loud is the aim of the IVIO<\/a>-UPV Chair<\/strong>, the new partnership agreement between the Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Val\u00e8ncia<\/strong> and the company, Biocenosis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The initiative, which is valid for at least one year and renewable, is ascribed to the Campus Gandia of the UPV<\/strong> and its director is Francisco Camarena<\/strong><\/a>, Professor in the Department of Applied Physics.
\nThe partnership agreement will first focus on conducting research in technologies applied to the field of dentistry<\/strong>, and then on educational and dissemination<\/strong> activities at the Campus Gandia. In particular, the Chair will participate in graduate programs and continuing education; organize symposia and conferences; promote the fields of dentistry, medicine and bioengineering among the university community, as well as oral health.<\/p>\n

ULTRASONICS AND MICROWAVES APPLIED TO DENTAL RESEARCH<\/p>\n

At the signing ceremony, Francisco Camarena<\/strong>, director of the department, said that they are planning to conduct four lines of research<\/strong>: “Medical imaging through ultrasound, bruxism sleep monitors, creating new materials through microwave processing, and developing multisensory and virtual reality systems.”<\/p>\n

“We also want to innovate in the physical design<\/strong> of incisors, canines and molars using new materials created through microwave processing. And lastly, we’ve started working on the use of micro-cameras with 3D images<\/strong> in surgical operations with the aim of showing students what is going on inside the patient’s mouth,” concluded Camarena.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the company, Joan Faus<\/strong>, CEO of Biocenosis, pointed out that they “approached Campus Gandia seeking closer cooperation between the two institutions. The UPV has fantastic professionals and wonderful biomedical laboratories <\/strong>that we thought could also accommodate dentistry.”<\/p>\n

On behalf of the university, Pepe Pastor<\/strong>, director of Campus Gandia of the UPV, said that he was very pleased with the signing of this Chair agreement and that that he believed it would add a whole new dimension to the university<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Finally, the rector of the UPV, Francisco Mora<\/strong>, said, “what we signed today is not a run-of-the-mill Chair collaboration. It is a broader and more comprehensive medium-term collaboration<\/strong> that will allow us to migrate basic understandings of science<\/strong>, in this case telecommunications engineering, to the field of health sciences<\/strong>. The benefits of it all will impact both the students and society as a whole.”<\/p>\n
