The project also incorporates the SYM group from the <strong>Center for Molecular Recognition and Technological Development<\/strong> as a second partner of the UPV. PHOCNOSIS launched in September 2015 and will <strong>continue running through to August 2018<\/strong>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>RAPID, ULTRASENSITIVE AND SIMULTANEOUS DETECTION<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upv.es\/pls\/oalu\/sic_per.info_persona?PE=78mSD%2FYIsThlaTNzG%2B6fbU1Ifx%2BR%2FuudqkjVHNvfnXZF5qfM5p60C3aFOtRc0p0zWtLl5zFDCb5oD0wvUzsh3x4101TRxjz0xIXlJ9DIwraW0lw5sW9xOw%3D%3D&amp;P_TIPOBUS=0&amp;P_VISTA=&amp;P_IDIOMA=i\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Jaime Garcia<\/strong><\/a>, project coordinator and research scientist at the <strong>Campus Gandia<\/strong>, the device he is working on aims to facilitate<strong> rapid detection &#8211; fewer than 10 minutes<\/strong> -and is ultra-sensitive, <strong>does not use markers<\/strong> (label-free) and can be used simultaneously with different cardiac biomarkers of relevance (several types of troponin-reactive protein C, etc.), <strong>by analyzing only a few drops of the patient&#8217;s blood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3880\" src=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/jaime-garcia-campus-de-gandia-phocnosis-dispositivo-diagnostico-precoz.png\" alt=\" Jaime Garc\u00eda Campus de Gandia phocnosis dispositivo diagn\u00f3stico precoz.\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/jaime-garcia-campus-de-gandia-phocnosis-dispositivo-diagnostico-precoz.png 640w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/jaime-garcia-campus-de-gandia-phocnosis-dispositivo-diagnostico-precoz-444x250.png 444w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/jaime-garcia-campus-de-gandia-phocnosis-dispositivo-diagnostico-precoz-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/jaime-garcia-campus-de-gandia-phocnosis-dispositivo-diagnostico-precoz-150x84.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It will be based mainly on the combination of two advanced nanotechnology concepts, key to achieving a compact and highly sensitivity final system. &#8220;First, we will make use of a <strong>micro-nanofluidic system<\/strong> to separate, purify and concentrate the biomarkers we want to detect. Subsequently, these concentrated biomarkers will be detected using a <strong>new nanophotonic sensing technique<\/strong> whose aim is to achieve final detection limits below 1 ng\/L,\u201d,says Jaime Garc\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>With regard to <strong>price<\/strong>, the research scientist points out that the <strong>objective is for the cost of chip production<\/strong> &#8211; which integrate the photonic sensor and the concentration\/purification systems &#8211; <strong>to be<\/strong> <strong>lower than 3 euros<\/strong> and the reading device to be lower than 3,000 euros.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3879\" src=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/phocnosis-dispositivo-diagnostico-precoz-enfermedades-cardiovasculares-investigador.jpg\" alt=\"phocnosis dispositivo diagn\u00f3stico precoz enfermedades cardiovasculares investigador\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/phocnosis-dispositivo-diagnostico-precoz-enfermedades-cardiovasculares-investigador.jpg 640w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/phocnosis-dispositivo-diagnostico-precoz-enfermedades-cardiovasculares-investigador-444x250.jpg 444w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/phocnosis-dispositivo-diagnostico-precoz-enfermedades-cardiovasculares-investigador-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/phocnosis-dispositivo-diagnostico-precoz-enfermedades-cardiovasculares-investigador-150x84.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This POC (point-of-care) device will significantly help to implement mass screening programs, with the subsequent<strong> impact on healthcare management and on reducing the cost of treatment<\/strong>,\u201d added Garcia.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>PHOCNOSIS<\/strong> project is funded by the <strong>European Union Horizon 2020 program<\/strong>. The Polytechnic University of Valencia is partnering with Bionos Biotech SL\u00a0 and Genera Biotech SL (Spain); Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and CDA GmbH (Germany); University of Twente (Netherlands); University of Aalborg (Denmark); EV Group GmbH (Austria); Art of Technology AG (Switzerland); and St. George University of London (UK).<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EjXN204f1rY?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It is important to highlight that the team being led by the professor and research scientist at the <strong>Campus Gandia<\/strong> has been active for several years producing significant advances in early detection of diseases.
