To overcome this, scientists are working on a system that can permeate the blood-brain barrier with <strong>ultrasound<\/strong> in order to <strong>deliver medications without damaging the wall<\/strong>. It is the only reversible, located and noninvasive system that can open the blood-brain barrier without damaging with the use of focused ultrasound. &#8220;The problem we found in the experiments in the United States is that <strong>the ultrasound beams were not being directed where we expected them<\/strong>. This technique, which was conducted by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yYiD4AKtB7c\" target=\"_blank\">No\u00e9 Jim\u00e9nez<\/a><\/strong>, with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upv.es\/titulaciones\/MUIA\/\" target=\"_blank\">Master &#8216;s Degree in Acoustic Engineering and a PhD from the UPV<\/a>, in collaboration with Professor Javier Redondo, involves solving the finite-difference equations of waves (which governs their behavior) in a leapfrog manner, so that the irregularities of the skull and other tissues can be easily be incorporated. The technique, known as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Finite-difference_time-domain_method\" target=\"_blank\">Finite-Difference Time-Domain<\/a><\/strong> (FDTD) has been used to solve acoustic problems in general and the scientists were able to adapt it to ultrasound.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3721\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3721\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3721 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/noe-jimenez-campus-gandia-upv.jpg\" alt=\"NOE JIMENEZ CAMPUS GANDIA UPV\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/noe-jimenez-campus-gandia-upv.jpg 640w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/noe-jimenez-campus-gandia-upv-333x250.jpg 333w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/noe-jimenez-campus-gandia-upv-150x113.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3721\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">No\u00e9 Jim\u00e9nez<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>ON THE WAY TO DEVELOPING AN ACOUSTIC LENS<\/p>\n<p>After developing the modeling technique, the research team is focusing on solving specific issues, such as <strong>determining the influence of increased energy and the angle of incidence of the focus<\/strong> in the path of the ultrasound beam; also they are investigating <strong>how the skull capture ultrasonic energy and what problems arise from this<\/strong>, as the heating of the bone structure.<\/p>\n<p>As they focus on this line of research, the scientists are currently working on the development of <strong>acoustic lenses<\/strong> made from sonic crystals, which would help correct the path of the ultrasound beam, &#8220;the same way that e<strong>yeglasses correct the path of light<\/strong>,&#8221; explained the researcher Francisco Camarena.
