The results indicate that geographical and local environmental factors, such as altitude, habitat type, and sampling effort, mainly determined differences among bird communities. In most cases, the observed patterns were related to the sampling stations&#8217; geographical locations or to interactions between spatial and temporal factors. This increase could be explained by several simultaneous processes, including the expansion of some resident species, the arrival and establishment of non-native species such as the common waxbill (<em>Estrilda astrild<\/em>) and the red-billed leiothrix (<em>Leiothrix lutea<\/em>), and the increase in wintering individuals of partially migratory species, such as the Eurasian scops owl (<em>Otus scops<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-4 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"323\" height=\"500\" data-id=\"26276\" src=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Infografia-1-323x500.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Infografia-1-323x500.webp 323w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Infografia-1-161x250.webp 161w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Infografia-1-768x1190.webp 768w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Infografia-1-992x1536.webp 992w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Infografia-1-1322x2048.webp 1322w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Infografia-1.webp 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A possible effect of geographical location and the predominance of generalist species<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although maximum temperatures showed a slight upward trend over the study period, this increase was not statistically significant in the models analysed. According to the research team, the relative stability of wintering bird communities in the Iberian Peninsula could be linked to its intermediate latitude, which may buffer the direct influence of climate variability compared with that observed in more northern or tropical regions.
