The crystal acts as an acoustic lens that improves the focus of sound waves.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><a title=\"News Auir Conference\" href=\"http:\/\/www.upv.es\/entidades\/EPSG\/noticia_873816i.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Auir Conference <\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A series of conferences centering on the situation of the Auir Beach (Gandia) in which <a title=\"News Radio Gandia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.radiogandia.net\/noticias-cadena-ser\/14673-el-campus-de-gandia-pone-en-valor-el-litoral-mediterraneo-la-upv-organiza-unas-jornadas-para-analizar-el-futuro-de-nuestra-costa-su-relacion-con-los-grandes-proyectos-y-su-influencia-en-el-cambio-climatico-.html\" target=\"_blank\">scientists from different fields<\/a> addressed the issue from an environmental, tourist and urban-planning perspective.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><a title=\"News study on levels of pesticides in the Jucar River\" href=\"https:\/\/www.upv.es\/noticias-upv\/noticia-6369-biodiversidad-a-es.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Study on levels of pesticides in the Jucar River<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A study carried out by researchers at the UPV and UV detected occasionally high concentrations of pesticides along the course of the Jucar River. These concentrations do not pose an immediate danger to fish, but the potential effects on metabolism and behavior cannot be ruled out.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><a title=\"News Tourism Carrying Capacity (TCC)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.upv.es\/noticias-upv\/noticia-6517-reserva-natural-es.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Tourism Carrying Capacity (TCC)<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A group of Tourism researchers on the Campus is applying the TCC tool to manage the sustainability of protected cultural heritage sites and nature reserves.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><a title=\"Flickr detection of sea turtles\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/campusdegandiaupv\/16034195910\/in\/set-72157649757577800\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Detection of sea turtles<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A research group at the Campus Gandia, in collaboration with l&#8217;ARCA del Mar, has conducted a study to detect sea turtles acoustically using scanning sonar.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li><a title=\"Workshop on Dissemination and Personal Branding for Researchers in Comunica2\" href=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/2014\/12\/workshop-on-dissemination-and-personal-branding-for-researchers-in-comunica2\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Comunica 2.0<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The 4th edition of the Social Media Conference hosted a workshop titled \u201cDisseminating Science on Social Media\u201d. This Conference has become a national industry leader and is rolling out its latest edition for February 2015.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/?p=2087&amp;lang=en&amp;preview=true\"><strong>Invisible Female Scientists<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To mark International Women&#8217;s Day, the &#8220;Invisible Female Scientists Seminar&#8221; was held with the aim of highlighting the role of women in science and research throughout history. The event featured an exhibition, a theatrical tour and a panel discussion with the participation of researchers from the UPV.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li><a title=\"Science Week 2014 Kicks Off\" href=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/2014\/11\/science-week-2014-kicks-off\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Science Week<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Science Week, which reached its ninth edition in 2014, is an activity that aims to bring science to the general public and especially young college-bound students<\/p>\n<ol start=\"10\">\n<li><a title=\"Exhibition: 20 Years of Research on the Campus\" href=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/2014\/11\/exhibition-20-years-of-research-on-the-campus\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Exhibition: 20 Years of Research on Campus Gandia<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This exhibition will bring the scientific research carried out on the campus of Gandia closer to society in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Campus.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"11\">\n<li><a title=\"Ivan Herrero Receives the 2014 Andres Lara Award for Young Researchers\" href=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/2014\/12\/ivan-herrero-receives-the-2014-andres-lara-award-for-young-researchers\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Awards: Andres Lara, Doctoral Thesis UPV and Radio Gandia<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Ivan Herrero received the Andres Lara Young Researcher Award granted by the Spanish Society of Acoustics. The graduate Miguel Garc\u00eda Pineda won a <a title=\"News UPV Special Award for Doctoral Thesis.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.upv.es\/entidades\/EPSG\/noticia_887603c.html\" target=\"_blank\">UPV Special Award for Doctoral Thesis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Campus gained the recognition of the jury of <a title=\"News Gandia Grupo Radio Awards \" href=\"http:\/\/www.radiogandia.net\/noticias-cadena-ser\/14583-el-campus-de-gandia-de-la-upv-premio-grupo-radio-gandia-en-la-categoria-de-educacion-el-centro-cumple-20-anos-en-su-tarea-de-compartir-saber-y-conocimiento.html\" target=\"_blank\">Gandia Grupo Radio Awards<\/a> for its role as &#8221; an outstanding institution, not only academically, but also in research and development.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"12\">\n<li><a title=\"Restoration of a New Work by the Painter Joan de Joanes\" href=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/2014\/11\/restoration-of-a-new-work-by-the-painter-joan-de-joanes\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Restoration of Joan de Joanes painting <\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A team of researchers from the UPV has restored a previously unknown art piece by the painter Joan de Joanes. This sixteenth century panel painting of the Crucifixion of Christ is noted for its great chromatic and stylistic richness.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"13\">\n<li><a title=\"Las tortugas abandonadas amenazan el marjal de Gandia\" href=\"\/?p=1298\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>E<\/strong><\/a><a title=\"Abandoned Turtles Threaten the Gandia Marsh\" href=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/2014\/10\/abandoned-turtles-threaten-the-gandia-marsh\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>xotic turtles threaten the Safor Marsh<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Sara Herrero collaborated with the LIFE + Trachemys project for her Master&#8217;s Thesis on Environmental Assessment and Monitoring of Marine and Coastal Ecosystems at Campus Gandia. Among the many findings, the project has detected that the Safor Marsh has a considerable overpopulation of the Trachemys scripta elegans turtles, known as &#8216;red-eared sliders&#8217;.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"14\">\n<li><a title=\"Noise Reduction During Space Launches\" href=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/2014\/10\/noise-reduction-during-space-launches\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Study to reduce noise in space launches<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Researchers at the UPV developed a pioneering project for the European Space Agency (ESA) aimed at achieving a significant noise reduction in the vicinity of the launch pad during rocket launches.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"15\">\n<li><a title=\"WOOL4BUILD Project, Creating New Absorbent Materials with Sheep Wool Scrap Material\" href=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/2014\/12\/wool4build-project-creating-new-absorbent-materials-with-sheep-wool-scrap-material\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>WOOL4BUILD Project <\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Campus Gandia researchers took part in the WOOL4BUILD project, whose main objective is to develop a sustainable product
