Since November 2024, a sustainable aquaculture research project focused on langoustine farming has been underway at Campus Gandia of the Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Val\u00e8ncia. The project is led by research professor Miguel Rodilla<\/a> and funded by the Gandia City Council.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project aims to cultivate and sustain langoustines in captivity for future commercialization through the Grao de Gandia Fishermen\u2019s Guild.\u201d We\u2019re investigating sustainable alternatives to traditional extractive fishing, and early findings are already showing promise. Over this time, the team has worked on establishing processes for the acclimatization, nutrition, and reproduction of langoustines in captivity.<\/span><\/p>\n

A technical visit to the laboratories at Campus Gandia was recently conducted to highlight the project\u2019s progress. Leading the visit was Alicia Izquierdo, Councilor for the Environment and Primary Sector (Fishing), accompanied by the Patron Saint of the Grao de Gandia Fishermen’s Guild. Andr\u00e9s and Maite, owners of the fishing vessel Nova Emi, participated in the visit, having also supported the project by fishing and selecting langoustines for laboratory work.<\/span><\/p>\n
