The Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Val\u00e8ncia (UPV) concluded 2024 with 107 of its researchers ranked among the world\u2019s most influential, according to the latest \u201cRanking of the World Scientists: World’s Top 2% Scientists<\/a>\u201d\u201d by Stanford University. This prestigious list, compiled in collaboration with Elsevier and based on Scopus data, identifies leading researchers across various fields of knowledge globally.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The ranking comprises two distinct lists: one assessing entire scientific careers and another focusing solely on the past year. The career-long list features 217,097 individuals, while the single-year list includes 223,152.\u00a0 Notably, 37 UPV scientists are recognized on both lists.<\/p>\r\n

The UPV scientists recognized in Stanford\u2019s top 2% ranking excel across diverse fields, including chemistry, agricultural engineering, telecommunications, biotechnology, industrial engineering, computer science, hydrogeology, bioengineering, artificial intelligence, and molecular biology.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In the career-long assessment,<\/strong> the top 5 leading UPV researcher<\/strong>s are: Avelino Corma, Hermenegildo Garc\u00eda, Amarajothi Dhakshinamoorthy Jos\u00e9 Capmany and Jaime Lloret from Campus\u00a0 Gandia (UPV<\/strong>). This prestigious list highlights the significant contributions of UPV researchers across various scientific disciplines.<\/p>\r\n

In the most recent yearly evaluation, 71 researchers from the Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Val\u00e8ncia (UPV) are among the world\u2019s most cited.<\/strong> In this ranking, Avelino Corma takes the top spot, followed by Jaime Lloret from Campus Gandia (UPV),<\/strong> as well as Hermenegildo Garc\u00eda, Amarajothi Dhakshinamoorthy, and Rafael Cortell.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

From Campus Gandia (UPV), Jaime Lloret<\/a>, Sandra Sendra<\/a>, Lorena Parra<\/a>, Juan Luis Corral<\/a> and Ivana Gasulla<\/a> have been recognized as some of the world’s leading scientists in the latest edition of the Ranking of the World Scientists: World’s Top 2% Scientists.<\/p>\r\n

Jaime Lloret is ranked 5,624th on the list reflecting impact over the past year and rises to 44,118th when considering the impact throughout his entire research career “It was a pleasant surprise to be ranked first in the list that only considers the past year, especially as a UPV affiliate,” says Lloret. Jaime Lloret, a graduate in Physics with a specialization in Electricity, Electronics, and Computer Science, is also an electronic engineer and holds a PhD in Telecommunications from UPV. The full professor of the Department of Communications at UPV and director of the Research Institute for Integrated Management of Coastal Zones (IGIC) focuses his research on P2P systems, multimedia networks, wireless sensor networks, the Internet of Things, and network protocols and algorithms. He is recognized as a national leader in the field of telecommunications, according to the scientific quality index (h-index) estimated by Clarivate Analytics<\/em>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Professor Juan Luis Corral from the UPV Department of Communications also ranks in the list that highlights the impact of a scientific career. A founding member of the UPV’s Institute of Nanophotonic Technology, his research focuses on optical communications, ranging from the design of innovative integrated optical components to the development of new modulation techniques and detection methods aimed at enhancing the speed of future optical networks.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Research Professor Sandra Sendra serves as the academic director of the Bachelor’s Degree in Interactive Technologies. She teaches various courses at Campus Gandia and conducts research in areas such as sensor design, the application of new wireless technologies for sensor networks, and communication protocols, among other topics. She is a Technical Engineer in Telecommunications, specializing in Electronic Systems, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications, Sound and Image Systems and a PhD from the UPV in Electronic Engineering. Since 2020, Sandra Sendra has been recognized as one of the leading female researchers in Spain in the field of telecommunications, according to the h-index of scientific quality.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Lorena Parra, a researcher at Campus Gandia, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, a Master’s Degree in Environmental Assessment and Monitoring of Marine and Coastal Ecosystems, a Master’s Degree in Aquaculture and a PhD from the UPV. She has taught at Campus Gandia of the UPV and is now at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). Her research focuses on developing low-cost sensors, monitoring agriculture and aquaculture, assessing water quality, and utilizing sensors for smart city applications.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Finally, Ivana Gasulla earned her Engineering degree in 2005 and her PhD in Telecommunications in 2008, both from UPV. Her research focuses on various areas, including the design and application of multicore optical fibers and optical fibers in microwave photonics and high-speed communications. At Campus Gandia, she teaches courses in the Bachelor’s Degree programs in Interactive Technologies and Audiovisual Communication. Gasulla has been recognized as one of the top 100 global leaders in photonics<\/a> by Electro Optics<\/em> magazine.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
