It also predicts ecohydrological, agronomic, and environmental variables crucial for water management in the J\u00facar basin.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eXDp1zs7tIU?si=N_0AVoiWlgdIZ6T1\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.upv.es\/pls\/oalu\/sic_person.Info?p_alias=fmcapel&amp;P_IDIOMA=i\"><u>Francisco Mart\u00ednez Capel<\/u><\/a>, a research professor at Campu Gandia of the Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Val\u00e8ncia, leads the team developing <strong>models that promote the survival of river-dependent species while enabling<\/strong><strong> the sustainable use of water resources<\/strong>. The web platform enhances the prediction of meteorological variables, providing a foundation for the entire chain of hydrological cycle models. The ecological aspect is a key focus of the WATER4CAST project, as water management requires regulating flow rates, which directly impacts the river environment and the habitats of various species.<\/p>\n<p>With this in mind, the <strong>\u201cFish Habi<\/strong><strong>tat Prediction<\/strong>\u201d work area of the \u201cIntegrated Forecasting System for Water and the Environment (WATER4CAST)\u201d project aims to enhance the management of the J\u00facar system, ensuring it can effectively meet new standards driven by the impacts of climate change..<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-19818\" src=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Rio-1440x376.jpg\" alt=\"Rio\" width=\"1440\" height=\"376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Rio-1440x376.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Rio-600x157.jpg 600w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Rio-768x201.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Rio-1536x402.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Rio-2048x535.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Rio-150x39.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnderstanding and characterizing the habitat is crucial, as it changes with the river\u2019s flow and water quality. <strong> Climate change impacts various factors that determine the survival of these species, some of which are classified as vulnerable or even endangered<\/strong>, such as the J\u00facar loach and the European eel,\u201d explains Francisco Mart\u00ednez.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese models will enhance the estimation of minimum ecological flows specified in hydrological plans, ensuring the survival of species while supporting the <strong>sustainable use of water for agriculture, urban needs, and other purposes,<\/strong>\u201d says the researcher.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prediction and Artificial Intelligence<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In their study, the project team gathers weather forecasts from various forecasting centers across Europe and the United States..<\/p>\n<p>This platform provides critical insights into short-term, sub-seasonal, and seasonal meteorological conditions, enabling informed and efficient decision-making for managing and utilizing water in the J\u00facar river basin.<\/p>\n<p>The research project is funded by the \u201cPrometeo 2021 for Research Groups of Excellence\u201d program, managed by the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science, and Digital Society (GVA).<\/p>\n<p>Finally, we are pleased to announce that the continuation of the PROMETEO project has been approved, and the new phase, WATER4CAST 2.0, will commence soon.
