{"id":14692,"date":"2021-09-21T17:45:50","date_gmt":"2021-09-21T15:45:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/?p=14692"},"modified":"2021-09-21T17:46:51","modified_gmt":"2021-09-21T15:46:51","slug":"manises-candidate-for-unesco-creative-city-2021manises-candidata-a-ciudad-creativa-de-la-unesco-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/en\/2021\/09\/manises-candidate-for-unesco-creative-city-2021manises-candidata-a-ciudad-creativa-de-la-unesco-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Manises, Candidate for UNESCO Creative City 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Spanish National Commission for Cooperation and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), belonging to the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, has selected Manises to represent Spain in the 2021 call for applications of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/creative-cities\/\">UNESCO Creative Cities Network<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/pegaso.webs.upv.es\/index.php\/gestion-turistica-y-legal-del-patrimonio-nantural-y-cultural\/\">Tourism and Heritage team<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/pegaso.webs.upv.es\/\">Architecture, Heritage and Management Research Center for Sustainable Development of the Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Val\u00e8ncia (UPV)<\/a>, who was in charge of <strong>preparing the application<\/strong>, played a key role in the selection.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/manises-ciudad-creativa-ceramica-version-divulgativa.pdf\" class=\"pdfemb-viewer\" style=\"\" data-width=\"max\" data-height=\"max\" data-toolbar=\"bottom\" data-toolbar-fixed=\"off\">manises-ciudad-creativa-ceramica-version-divulgativa<\/a>\n<p>The research work group, headed by <strong>Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Vi\u00f1als<\/strong> from the UPV, counts with the participation of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.upv.es\/pls\/oalu\/sic_person.info?PE=78mSD%2FYIsThNviAhCAJoLldo31wPJ2W3ehKhIeQLz4xF5qfM5p60C3aFOtRc0p0zN4D0Ype%2FGLZoD0wvUzsh3zEAweKQ6dYbdajeaazCYsGg7HXofmaFVg%3D%3D&amp;P_IDIOMA=i&amp;P_VISTA=normal\">Lola Teruel<\/a><\/strong> from Campus Gandia, an expert in heritage tourism management, working alongside <strong>Laura Gilabert<\/strong> and <strong>Anna Sanasaryan<\/strong>.\u00a0This is <strong>the same team that prepared the dossier for Ll\u00edria&#8217;s application for the Music category<\/strong> in the 2019 call, procuring its membership to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14678\" src=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/lola-teruel-upv-gandia-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/lola-teruel-upv-gandia-1.jpg 640w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/lola-teruel-upv-gandia-1-376x250.jpg 376w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/lola-teruel-upv-gandia-1-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>NATIONAL CANDIDATE IN CRAFTS AND FOLK ART<\/p>\n<p>In this case, Manises is applying to join the network in the field of <strong>Crafts and Folk Art<\/strong>, and in <strong>Vi\u00f1als<\/strong>&#8216; words, it does so \u201cas a consequence of the current value of its artisanal ceramic production, whose origin dates back to over 700 years ago, and that is characterized by the use of the Islamic-inspired metallic luster technique, among other aspects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For <strong>Lola Teruel<\/strong>, &#8220;joining this prestigious international network is a way of recognizing both the artistic technique and the city as a whole, opening up new strategic and interesting avenues for its tourism development.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14681\" src=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/1-imagen-nota-de-prensa3-copia.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/1-imagen-nota-de-prensa3-copia.jpg 640w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/1-imagen-nota-de-prensa3-copia-475x250.jpg 475w, https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/1-imagen-nota-de-prensa3-copia-150x79.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>UNESCO CREATIVE CITIES NETWORK<\/p>\n<p>The UNESCO Creative Cities Network was created in 2004 as a result of the experience of the Global Alliance for Cultural Diversity in 2002, and it does so with the aim of<strong> fostering international cooperation between cities that invest in creativi<\/strong>ty as an <strong>accelerator of sustainable urban development<\/strong>, as well as for <strong>culture and social inclusion. <\/strong>This Network is structured around 7 creative fields: Literature, Film, Music, Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Gastronomy and Media Arts.<\/p>\n<p>The UNESCO call for applications takes place every two years, allowing each country to present two candidatures from a different category, after a section process carried out by the National Commission of each country. In this case, alongside Manises, the other selected applicant was <strong>Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the Music category<\/strong>. We will have to wait until October to see the list of cities selected in all the categories.<\/p>\n<p><em>EXHIBITION: TOUR OF THE UNESCO CREATIVE CITIES NETWORK<\/em><\/p>\n<p>From September 10 to October 20, the Casa de la Cultura in Manises is hosting the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/manisescityofceramics.es\/en\/exposicion-recorrido-por-las-ciudades-creativas-de-la-unesco\/?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=exposicion-recorrido-por-las-ciudades-creativas-de-la-unesco\">UNESCO Creative Cities exhibition<\/a><\/em> in its cloister, where artisanal traditions and creative arts from the cities that already belong to the network are made known through a series of posters.<\/p>\n<p>This exhibition is organized by the Manises City Council and is curated by<strong> Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Vi\u00f1als, Anna Sanasaryan <\/strong>and<strong> Lola
