In this context, research and innovation is crucial for the <strong>development of eco-efficient products and services<\/strong> capable of responding to the demand for sustainable and environmentally responsible alternatives.<\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>construction industry<\/strong>, the boom in green materials that continues to grow. This area of research is the subject of the study, &#8220;Sound-Absorption Properties of Materials Made of Esparto Grass Fibers&#8221;, by <strong>Roberto Oltra<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.upv.es\/pls\/oalu\/sic_person.Info?p_alias=jesalba&amp;P_IDIOMA=i\">Jes\u00fas Alba<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.upv.es\/pls\/oalu\/sic_person.Info?p_alias=roderey&amp;P_IDIOMA=i\">Romina Del Rey<\/a><\/strong>, experts in acoustics from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.upv.es\/contenidos\/CGANDIA\/index-en.html\">Campus Gandia UPV<\/a>, alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-4728-8964\">Jorge Arenas<\/a>, professor at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ingenieria.uach.cl\/postgrado\/magister-en-acustica-y-vibraciones.html\">Institute of Acoustics of the Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh).<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12787\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The research presents <strong>esparto fiber as an alternative to standard sound-absorbing materials<\/strong>, since most of these are manufactured with mineral or synthetic fibers, which entail various environmental problems, both in their manufacture and in their disposal. &#8220;These materials are difficult to recycle, their combustion causes emissions of toxic fumes and their industrial production requires large amounts of energy, which increases the emission of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide into the atmosphere, in addition to posing a risk to health, &#8221; according to the research staff.<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-12804-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" href=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/jesu\u0301s-alba-cadena-ser-campus-gandia-upv.mp3\">https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/jesu\u0301s-alba-cadena-ser-campus-gandia-upv.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/play.cadenaser.com\/audio\/1596363591_417553\/?ssm=tw#\"><strong>Jes\u00fas Alba (UPV): &#8220;Natural esparto could reduce the carbon footprint and increase sustainability&#8221; in la Cadena Ser<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Faced with this problem, the study measures the <strong>sound absorption performance of three different types of esparto grasses<\/strong> originating in Pakistan, Tunisia and Egypt respectively, to solve <strong>sound insulation problems in buildings<\/strong>, further contributing to the existing sustainable alternatives.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-12781\" src=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/1-fibra-de-esparto-520x500.png\" alt=\"\" 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To this end, the UPV team analyzed the sound absorption coefficient and the airflow resistivity of each esparto grass, developing the first model known to date for predicting the sound-absorption coefficient for this type of fiber.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-12784\" src=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/2-fibra-de-esparto-637x500.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"637\" height=\"500\" 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 637px) 100vw, 637px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once concluded the study, both teams (UPV-UACh) are working on improving the durability of the product and analyzing the effects of adding flame retardants or insect repellents to the fibers.<\/p>\n<p>LEADER IN ACOUSTICS<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Campus Gandia is at the forefront in <strong>Acoustic Engineering<\/strong>, with a long history and specialization in this area, both in the teaching and scientific fields.<\/p>\n<p>The commitment to educating students and to their scientific potential in this discipline is reflected in the quality of their research work. <strong>Roberto Oltra<\/strong>, co-author of the study, is an example of the emerging talent of the campus.\u00a0 With a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.upv.es\/titulaciones\/GISTSI\/indexi.html\">Bachelor&#8217;s Degree in Telecommunications Systems, Sound and Image Engineering<\/a>, he also studied the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upv.es\/titulaciones\/MUIA\/index-en.html\">Master&#8217;s Degree in Acoustic Engineering<\/a>, where his thesis project was a study titled<a href=\"https:\/\/riunet.upv.es\/handle\/10251\/129234\"> &#8220;Sound-Absorbing Materials Based on Esparto Fibers&#8221;<\/a>, supervised by <strong>Romina del Rey<\/strong> and <strong>Jes\u00fas href=\"http:\/\/www.ingenieria.uach.cl\/postgrado\/magister-en-acustica-y-vibraciones.html\">Universidad Austral de Chile\u00a0(UACh)<\/a> , which has lasted for over decade, has been fundamental to <a href=\"https:\/\/cienciagandia.webs.upv.es\/en\/2019\/05\/campus-gandia-increases-its-potential-as-an-acoustics-research-center\/\">strengthening the acoustic research potential of both institutions.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This relationship led the creation of an international Dual Degree agreement that allows eight selected students to obtain the <a
