The “Safor Salut” program, a joint initiative between the Foundation for the Promotion of Health and Biomedical Research of the Valencian Community (FISABIO), Campus Gandia of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), and the Federation of Business Associations de la Safor (FAES), reports a positive balance of its activity in 2020 and for which it has received a grant from the Valencian Innovation Agency.
Throughout the year, a numerous actions have been carried out under this program, all aimed at promoting the generation of collaborative research and innovation projects that allow the development of innovative solutions in the healthcare fields.
After holding an on-line Kick Off conference that launched the project in 2020, three Technology Pills and three subsequent co-creation workshops have been conducted digitally focused on emerging technologies whose use and application in the healthcare setting will lead to the transformation of the sector, as well as a fourth co-creation Workshop aimed at the Gandia Health Department and the La Pedrera Hospital to identify key challenges.
In order to achieve the specified objectives, the program has a enabled a system to collect project ideas on the www.saforsalut.es platform, resulting in 32 ideas evaluated, 25 found to be viable, and 15 that are active. Of the total number of active ideas, 12% have the participation of businesses and 38% are in the development phase.
In total there are 6 active research projects, 3 of them passing feasibility tests and another 3 with funding granted for execution in 2021 (two of them being Polisabio grants and the third being a grant from the Universitat Politècnica de València).
The Safor Salut team gave positive assessment to the results obtained in 2020 during the meeting of the Project Monitoring Committee, held in December as the last event of the year. In addition, two collaboration agreements were approved at the meeting between the UPV and Fisabio and two companies in the Safor county.
NEW CHALLENGES
The Monitoring Commission meeting stressed “the importance of continuing to work to establish collaboration agreements between the health sector, technology and business for the development of innovations in health.” Likewise, the continuity of the project in 2021 has been announced as well as the main lines of action proposed for this year, intended to consolidate the program and incorporate social agents (patient associations) as elements for generating ideas and participation in projects, as well as the City Council of Gandia.
