Sensor Tools for Healthcare Applications at the III Safor Salut Technology Pill

The cooperation program Safor Salut held their third Technology Pill via an online session focused on the application of IoT (internet of things) devices in healthcare, on the morning of Thursday, November 26th.

The implementation of IoT technologies in different healthcare settings is seen as an opportunity to increase the quality of care and improve hospital management, leading to more personalized and efficient healthcare services. The use of autonomous and wireless sensors allows users to monitor variables, obtain real-time readings and program alerts based on the results, improving medical care in all its stages, from prevention and diagnosis to treatment and monitoring.

With the final aim of providing information to encourage proposals for new collaborative R&D&I projects, throughout the conference experts in various fields addressed the basic concepts of IoT as applied to healthcare and analyzed the solution development process in this field through research projects and examples of successful applications in the sector.

To this end, the event brought together researchers from Campus Gandia (Universitat Politècnica de València), healthcare professionals from the Department of Health of Gandia and the Hospital La Pedrera de Dénia, and businesses from the Safor belonging to the Federation of Federation of Business Associations of the Safor (FAES), all of them with keen interest in proposing ideas and improvements in patient care and overall health of the population based on this technology and with the capacity to help tackle the challenges posed by the integration of IoT devices to the healthcare setting.

The speakers included Vicente Traver, member of the SABIEN-ITACA group of the UPV; Pascual Escrivá, from the Pediatric Service of the Virgen de los Lirios Hospital in Alcoy; Sandra Sendra, researcher at Campus Gandia (UPV) and Salvador Rodrigo, representing the LOCATEC company.

All those present concurred that IoT technologies offer tremendous potential and that their applications will have a great impact in the health field. These IoT technologies offer a great many uses and solution development that are valuable for both healthcare personnel and patients and their families, which are decisive for improvements to the provision of healthcare and quality of life of people.

The applications presented by the researcher Sandra Sendra are low-cost systems that implement IoT technologies with medical applications: Portable Bluetooth sensor for the detection of epileptic episodes, Travel assistance system and obstacle detection for people with visual disabilities, Smart infant incubator based on in LoRa networks and non-invasive wireless mobile system for real-time monitoring of COVID-19 patients in nursing homes.

To conclude the session, Jesús Alba, director of Campus Gandia, stressed the importance of promoting health research and innovation projects related to this technology, encouraging participation in the Safor Salut program and highlighting the capacity of IoT technologies to respond to the new needs presented by the current health situation.

NEW SAFOR SALUT WEBSITE

Safor Salut presents its new website and invites you to take part in the initiative.

Taking part is very easy! If you have a project idea or solution applied to the health field and you need a partner from the healthcare, university or business settings to carry it out, log into the platform and enter your idea or challenge. n addition, you can view the ideas/challenges already introduced and express your interest by contacting the Safor Salut team.
