Library, Training for Research Staff

One of the most important missions of the Campus Gandia Library – CRAI of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) is to support research and lifelong learning. For this reason, training sessions on the use the materials and tools available in the library, including databases, scientific identifiers, etc., is a priority.

It is extremely important for research personnel to have standardized and unified names, both to locate research papers and to obtain the results of the impact of their publication (citations, h-index…).

To fulfill this mission, we have organized a face-to-face session on the Scopus database and a workshop on improving the profile of researchers using ORCID, in the months of October and November, respectively. The Library staff encourages you register for the courses that we have organized and we are confident that they will provide maximum value to all of you.

SCOPUS DATABASES SESSION

The library has arranged a face-to-face training session for the Scopus database, organized by the FECYT  (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology), to explain the most useful features, such as the standardization and unification of the names of researchers. In addition, the users will be able ask all their questions in session

Scopus is Elsevier‘s abstract and citation database that encompasses one of the largest collections in the world of: summaries, minutes, scientific websites, bibliographic references and indexes with more than 15,000 peer-review journals of science, technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering, life sciences and health, social and economic sciences, etc.

Students, research personnel and all those interested may register here:

REGISTRATION

It is very important to register correctly because the information entered will appear in the certificate that will be issued to the attendees after the session has concluded. The training material and practical exercises to be used will be available from October on the following link: COURSE MATERIAL.

  • Session: Face-to-Face Scopus Training
  • Date October 26, 2018
  • Time: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.
  • Place: Room H-104 (H-CRAI Building)

WORKSHOP ON IMPROVING PROFILE IN ORCID

In addition, in collaboration with the UPV ICE Institute of Education Sciences, we have organized a course-workshop on ORCID, a scientific contributer identification that offers researchers many advantages, as it provides unique persistent identity for humans, allowing them to sign the articles sent to journals, as well as linking them to grant applications. It is integrated into the CVN of the FECYT and is required by Senia (the UPV curricular management tool).

Obtaining a permanent y digital object identifier (DOI) allows researchers to obtain unequivocal attribution of their scholarly articles and research activities. This favors the visibility and impact of the publications in which the researcher participate, while resolving the author name ambiguity problem.

ORCID also links the activities of referenced authors in different bibliographic databases or information systems. It also gives researcher control over their profile and visibility of their information online. More information on ORCID is available in the Poliscience website.

Registration begins on October 22nd. All those interested should register through the UPV Intranet, in the Portal de Formación (Training Portal), going first to ICE and then to active offers, where you will click on FORMACIÓN A DEMANDA CURSO 18/19 (Training on Demand). This course will be given during the Gandia Science Week 2018.

  • Workshop: Improving ORCID profile
  • Date: November 7, 2018
  • Time: 10:00 am – 14:00 pm
  • Place: Room H-103 (H-CRAI Building, Campus Gandia)
