Renewal of the IVIO-UPV Chair

One year has passed since the signing of the agreement between the Universitat Politècnica de València and the Valencian Institute of Dental Research that gave birth to the IVIO-UPV Chair. The Chair is ascribed to the Campus Gandia of the UPV and its director is Francisco Camarena.

The agreement has been renewed for another year, so we take the opportunity to review the highlights of the Chair’s first year:

The application of ultrasound in oral implantology is one of the lines of the IVIO-UPV Chair. The bone density analysis project using ultrasound as a diagnostic could become a key tool in the planning of implant surgery and in processes such as osseointegration

We imagined the infinite possibilities that a virtual oral scenario in 3D could offer. An environment in which two or more dentists located in different geographical points, could interact and collaborate in a virtual oral scenario in 3D, without limitations of time or space. And we are working to make it a reality.

The Chair has taken a series of measures to put together the best human and technical team and advance the instructional programs at our campus.

In this first year, one junior and one senior research technicians were recruited for the project titled “Technologes in the Field of Dentistry”. In addition, a collaboration grant was given for the development of an Augmented Reality application to assist dentists during implant surgery.

At present, the IVIO-UPV Chair has two Master’s Theses (TFM) and one Doctoral Thesis related to the thematic focus of the Chair

– TFM: “Development of an Augmented Reality application to assist dentists in the placement of dental implants”.

– TFM: “Ultrasonic monitoring of the guided bone regeneration process in dental implantology”.

Doctoral Thesis: “Advanced ceramic for dental applications sintered by microwave heating”.

The I IVIO-UPV Chair Symposium titled “From Planning to Execution” brought together more than fifty dentists who debated the principal techniques that are transforming the world of oral implantology and periodontics.

Furthermore, the IVIO-UPV Chair and the Gandia City Council sponsored the first POLISABIO Conference, a UPV-Fisabio collaboration program that aims to promote research in medicine and biomedicine at the Gandia Campus.

The IVIO-UPV Chair is calling for entries for the Best Bachelor or Master Thesis (TFG/TFM) Award 2016-2017 in the field of Dental Engineering. A single prize of €500 will be awarded. The period for the submission of applications will remain open until October.
