Monday, November 10th saw the opening of the Science Week 2014 exhibition titled “20 Years of Research on the Campus Gandia”, located in the multipurpose room of the CRAI building. The ceremony was attended by the Director of Campus de Gandia, Pepe Pastor, the Deputy Director of Promotion and Culture, Paco Castells and the Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Transfer of the UPV, José E. Capilla, as well as professors, researchers and PhD students belonging to the research groups of Campus Gandia.
The exhibition “20 Years of Research on the Campus Gandia” is a project that aims to bring the scientific research being carried out on our Campus closer to society on the occasion of its 20th Anniversary. In this exhibition, consisting of a total of 21 posters, you can see some of the most important research projects of the Campus Gandia, such as: new methods for pesticide analysis in environmental samples; sonic crystals, control and management of acoustic waves; electronic-nose technologies for the characterization of digestive diseases; enhancement of the natural and cultural heritage and tourism product design, etc. The exhibition is complemented with materials and devices that can be viewed in the display cases, such as speaker parts, acoustic insulation with recycled materials, sonic crystals or even an old mountain weather station. Also related to research, the CRAI multipurpose hall is continuously projecting a series of videos consisting of interviews with researchers and professors about the research being conducted on campus. Moreover, educational materials have been prepared so that the college-bound students visiting us can work together on-site in teams on assignments about the contents of the exhibition.
This is an opportunity to connect everyone who is passionate about the world of science and is interested in learning about the contributions to the world of research and technological development that have taken place on the campus in its young existence. In the words of Vice Chancellor: “My congratulations to the Campus Gandia for communicating what we are doing to society, since it is our duty is to give more each day.” In his inaugural speech, José E. Capilla also spoke about the budgetary problems that scientific research and R&D&I are facing in Spain, a problem arising from budget and spending cuts. “Now more than ever we must be very active in getting funding for R&D&I,” he concluded.
The exhibition is open to the public from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm from November 10 to 21 in the multipurpose room of Campus Gandia. After that it will move to the Campus Conference Hall until January 31, 2015.
